JSSIS-OOTY WINS THE QUIZ COMPETITION CONDUCTED BY THE FOREST DEPARTMENT

A quiz competition was conducted by the Forest Department, Government of Tamil Nadu, on the 22nd of September 2013 at Gov’t Arts College, Ooty.

Two Students from JSSIS-Ooty, (1) Master. Sreevatsa of class IX and (2) Master. Lothar. of class IX, who had participated in the competition, had brought laurels to themselves and to the School, having won with top honours and bagging the First Prize.

JSSIS-OOTY WINS PAINTING COMPETITION CONDUCTED BY THE FOREST DEPARTMENT.

A District level painting competition was conducted by the Forest Department ,Gov’t of Tamilnadu, at Govt. Arts College, Ooty, on the 22nd of September 2013.  JSSIS -Ooty had gained entry into the competition among various other Schools in the Nilgiris.

The Students of JSSIS have won prizes in the following categories.

Group A (LKG to 2nd Std)- Baby Sakthivarsha of class II won the Second Prize.

Group C (6th Std to 8th Std)-Ms. Megha Arun of class VIII won the First Prize.

The First Prize winning works, in all categories, from all the Districts were sent to Chennai for evaluating the overall winner in the State. It is a matter of great pride that Ms. Megha Arun’s painting was adjudged as the best painting in the State in Category “C”. The award for the First Prize was given away to Ms. Mega Arun of JSSIS-Ooty by the Hon. Minister of Forest, in a cermony held at Chennai.

STUDENTS OF JSSIS-OOTY WIN DRAWING AND COLLAGE WORK COMPETITIONS.

A drawing and collage work competition was conducted by “Cliffrock creative School, Ooty on the 10t of Aug 2013. Many a number of Students from various Schools in the Nilgiris had participated.

Separate prizes were given for the drawing competitions  and collage work competitions.

Among the drawing competition, the following Students of JSSIS-Ooty were awarded prizes as detailed below:-

  • Ms. Mega Arun of class VIII won the First Prize.
  • Ms.Lakshmi Jayashankar of class IX won the Second Prize.

Among the collage work competition, the following Students of JSSIS-Ooty were awarded prizes as detailed below:-

  • Master. Mohan of class X won the First Prize.
  • Master. R Vishal of class VIII won the Second Prize.

JSSIS-OOTY STUDENTS BRING LAURELS BY WINNING THE DRAWING COMPETITION.

A drawing competition comprising two categories, (1) for classes I to IV and (2) Classes V to XII, with a participation of one Student in each category, was held at Hotel Gem Park, Ooty on 05/08/2013.

Master. Rahul Chengappa of class IV and Miss. Megha Arun of Class VIII represented JSSIS-Ooty, amongst many number of competitors from various other School in the Nilgiris.

Master. Rahul Chengappa won the first prize in the junior category and Ms. Megha Arun won the first prize in the senior category.

JSSIS-OOTY HOSTS THE INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT FOR THE GIRLS

JSSIS-OOTY HOSTS THE INTER SCHOOL FOOTBALL TOURNAMENT FOR THE GIRLS.

JSSIS- Ooty, had the honour of hosting the Inter School football tournaments for the Inter, Senior and the Super Senior division for the Girls, amongst the Association of the English speaking Schools in the Nilgiris, for the academic year 2013-14, on the 24th and 25th of Oct 2013, at the JSSIS main field.

Having sent out requests for entries to the various schools, the following have gained entry into the tournament.

In theUnder 14 category, Hebron School-Ooty and Laid Law Memorial School and Junior College, Ketti had gained entry into the final. The final play off saw Hebron emerge victorious, carrying with them the champion’s trophy.

In the Under 16 category, Hebron School- Ooty and River Side Public School, Kotagiri were the finalists. The final play off resulted in both teams ending in a draw. RSPS emerged victorious in the penalty shoot out and carried away the champion’s trophy.

In the Under 19 category, the finalists were JSSIS-OOty and Hebron School-Ooty. After an exciting match with an abundance of audience among much joy and cheer, saw Hebron School beating JSSIS, 3 goals to nil. Hebron School, Ooty walked away with the champion’s trophy.

Besides rolling trophies, JSSIS-Ooty had honoured the players of excellence with the following awards:-

UNDER 14 CATEGORIES

  • The best player award went to Ms. Vishti Puk of Hebron School.
  • Best up-coming player award went to Ms. Mishal of LMS.
  • Best goal keep award was awarded to Ms. Monika of JSSIS.

UNDER 16 CATEGORIES

  • The best player award went to Ms.Madhumitha of RSPS-Kotagiri.
  • The best up-coming player awarded to Ms. Nikol of Hebron School.
  • The best goal keeper award was awarded to Ms. Harini of RSPS.

UNDER 19 CATEGORIES

  • The best player award went to Ms.Aishwarya Subramaniam of JSSIS-Ooty.
  • The best goal keeper award was awarded to Ms. Simona of Hebron School.

The two day long session of exciting Girls football came to an end with our Principal Mr. Rennie Joseph Mendonce, proposing a vote of thanks.

INTER HOUSE ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET AT JSSIS-OOTY

THE 23rd INTER HOUSE ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET AT JSSIS-OOTY.

A few showers prior to the day of the athletic meet on Friday the 11th of Oct 2013, kept all of us wondering, and hoping for a few hours of sunshine which would keep the meet alive. The morning of the meet greeted us with a clear blue sky and the School House march-past contingent were assembled at 09.15 a m to welcome our chief guest for the meet.

The bugle call marked the arrival of our chief guest Mr. H. T. Kumar, B.A., N.I.S., The District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer, Udhagamandlam, who was welcomed by The Principal and other dignitaries of the School. He then inspected the Guard of Honour presented on his behalf.

We then had the torch relay by Darpan, Mashal, Pragadesh and Md.Rafeez, who had brought laurels to themselves and to the School in the recently concluded Inter School Athletic meet held at MRC-Wellington.

We then had the hoisting of the School flag by the School Captain, and the House flags by the respective captains of the four houses. This was followed by the opening march past, led by the School captain and the various houses in the order of their finish in last years annual athletic meet. Leading the contingent was Agni house, followed by Jala, Prithvi and Vayu houses. Our distinguished chief guest, took the salute as the School and the Houses marched past the dias.

Our distinguished chief guest then declared the annual athletic meet of JSSIS-Ooty, open, as fireworks boomed the campus, balloons and pigeons unfurled.

This was then followed by the sports events. The highlight of the events which kept the audience comprising guests and parents, roaring with laughter was the events of Boys and Girls of classes I to IV which was collecting equipments, Filling the bottles, Going to the market and the obstacle race.

The 4 X 100 Mts relay was a spectacular event amongst all divisions which was welcomed with joy and cheer  kept all of them on their toes and cheering their teams along. There was also an events for the parents, guest and the Teachers, which was the lucky corner.

This was then followed by the closing march past, and all four contingents assembled for the distribution of the prizes by our chief guest. Our distinguished chief guest Mr. H. T.Kumar, District Sports and Youth Welfare Officer then did the honours in giving away the awards to the winners.

  • Amongst the Inter Girls            – Janani of Jala House.
  • Amongst the Senior and Super Senior Girls- Nivetha of Jala House.

DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

  • Amongst the Sub-Junior Girls- Agni House.
  • Amongst the Sub-Junior Boys- Agni House.
  • Amongst the Junior Girls       – Prithvi House.
  • Amongst the Junior Boys       – Jala House.
  • Amongst the Inter Girls          – Jala House.
  • Amongst the Inter Boys          – Agni House.
  • Amongst the Senior and Super Senior Girls- Jala House.
  • Amongst the Senior Boys- Prithvi Hosue.
  • Amongst the Super Senior Boys- Agni House.

The award for the best contingent in the marching went to Jala House.

The overall champions for the 23rd annual athletic meet 2013-14 ,was awarded to Agni House with a total of 415 pioints. The runner up was Jala House, followed by Prithvi in third place and bringing up the rear was Vayu House.

Our distinguished chief guest then addressed the gathering in an inspiring speech on the discipline and character to be adhered and adapted to in the games events. Our distinguished Principal Mr. Rennie J Mendonce then proposed a vote of thanks. A colourful and entertaining event, came to an end with the School choir singing the National Anthem.

THE FOUNDER’S DAY CELEBRATION AT JSSIS-OOTY.

The 98th Jayanthi celebrations of The Founder His Holiness Rajaguruthilaka Jagadguru Dr. Sri Sri Shivarathri Rajendera Mahaswamiji was celebrated in the campus of the JSSIS- Ooty on Saturday the 31st of Aug 2013.

Students were assembled in the auditorium at 8.45 a m  to welcome the chief guest for the morning, Mr. John Barclay, Principal, Hebron School, Ooty. In his inspiring speech to the Students, he emphasized the need for Students to excel not only in academics, but to devote their attention to extra and co-curricular activities and in art and music. Mr. John Barclay then inaugurated the Art and Science exhibition.  He applauded the wonderful display of art created by the Students and the Science exhibits which were exquisite.

Another dignitary that had graced the occasion as a chief guest was Dr. C. Naganna, Director, Prasaranga, University of Mysore. In his speech to the audience, he highlighted the life history of our Founder and how the JSS Institution started as a small foundation and grew in clusters to the massive Institution that keeps its flag flying high as of today.

This was then followed by an inter School Singing competition and the theme given to them were from the British band troop “Smoky”. Along with the host School, the other Schools that took part were, (1) The Laid Law School and Junior College, Ketti, (2) Stanes Higher Secondary School, Coonoor and  (3)Brindavan Public School, Wellington.

The Laid Law School and Junior College bagged the first prize and the runner up was Stanes School.

Post lunch session, the Students, guests and parents assembled to witness the “Shadow Show” The Schools that had participated in the Shadow Show, were.

  • Brindavan School- Wellington.
  • St. Hilda’s School-Ooty
  • Woodside School- Ooty
  • Stanes School- Coonoor
  • Nazereth Convent-Ooty
  • Nilgiri Matriculation- Ooty
  • Laid Law Memorial School and Junior College-Ketti

The Nilgiri Matriculation School Ooty was declared winners in the inter School Shadow show competition, followed by Laid Law Memorial School and Junior College, Ketti in second place and there was a tie for the third place between Brindavan Public School, Wellington and Nazreth convent ooty.

After tea, the audience reassembled for a variety entertainment programme by the Students of JSSIS.

A daylong event of fun and enlightenment ended with the National Anthem.

PREFECTS INVESTITURE AT JSSIS 2013-14

July 5th dawned a bring and breezy day which was reflected in the mood of the newly elected captains and prefects who were most excited as they were going to be given their badges that day.

The investiture ceremony began with the Students council marching in,cupping earthen lamps in their palms and lighting up the School auditorium with a warm ambience. it was a sight to behold!!

The chief guest of the day Ms. Collison, Principal of St. Hilda’s School, Ooty, was given a warm welcome by the guard of honour, was introduced by our  Principal Mr. Rennie J Mendonce. The function started off with the chief guest lighting the mother lamp.

This was followed by the invocation song by the School choir.

Soon after, the solemn oath taking ceremony began.

As the  office bearers were introduced, their achievements were announced  while a slide show was presented.

The order was as follows:

1. Mahadev-XII-  TheSchool Captain

2. Sri Dharshan-XII:  The School vice-captain

3. Abhineeth Kumar-XII: The Sports captain

4.Aishwarya Subramanian-XII- The Sports captain

5. Pallava Rayudu-XII- The School Hostel Captain

6. Abilash-XII- The School Boys vice captain

7. Maria Joseph-XII- The School Girls Hostel capatain

8. Hinanshi Singh-XII- The School Girls Hostel vice-captain.

The Principal did the honours of administrating the oath. Our chief guest duly pinned the badges on the team of captains and handed over the School flag to Mahadev, the School captain.

As the initiation of the office bearers of each house took their places in alphabetical order, first the best lot of Agni house formally stepped forward for the oath taking ceremony.

The moto of Agni house is “Trust in the best”. Mr. Nandha Kumar, the Agni house master administered the oath, pinned the badges on the prefectorial team and handed over the house flag to the captain of Agni house- Syed Sohail. The prefectorial team selected for Agni house are as follows.

“Sacrifice to Succeed” is the motto of Jala House and true to form the Jala house captain- Kishan.

Mr. Ravichandran, the house master pinned the badges on the prefectorial team and presented the flag to the captain of Jala House- Kishan.

Next, Prithvi House team marched forward perseveringly to prove their moto “Effort never fails” to take their oath and receive their badges from their House master Mr. Ramesh. The Prithvi house flag was handed over by Mr. Ramesh to the Prithvi house captain- Md. Amjad.

Last but not the least we had Vayu houe move forward on stage affirming their moto,” Strive to Win” to take their oath and receive their badges for Mr. Balamurugan, the house master who did the honours of handing over the flag to the captain -Mohana Prakash.

This was followed by the School song which was sung with pride by the School coir.

To the delight of the audience and to lighten up the austere ceremony, Yash of class X sand a medodious song.

The highlight of the day was a shadow show presented by the XI grade Boys to create awareness for a clean and green earth – our amazing planet. This presentation really did steal the show!

The chief guest Ms.Collison then gave an enlightening speech on leadership qualities which was appropriate for the day. Mahadev, the School captain delivered the vote of thanks.

The formal ceremony ended with the National Anthem.

INTER HOUSE ENGLISH DEBATE AT JSSIS-OOTY

INTER HOUSE ENGLISH DEBATE AT JSSIS-OOTY

The Inter House Senior English Debate was held at the School auditorium on Thursday the 8th of Aug 2013.

There were two participants from each house. The topic given for the debate was “DOES THE INDIAN SYSTEM OF EDUCATION HELP IN MAKING OUR FUTURE”. There were four participants speaking for the motion and four against.

After an active debate and rebuttal, Vayu House won with 4 points, followed by Agni House with 3 points. The third position was for Jala House, with two points and in the rear was Agni house.

Master Karan Shankla of class XI was adjudged the best speaker with 22 points and Miss. Deekshitha Nagarajan of Class XII was adjudged the second best speaker with 20 points.

JSSIS EMERGE CHAMPIONS IN THE UNDER 16 FOOTBALL FOR THE BOYS

UNDER 16 FOOTBALLERS BRING LAURELS TO THEMSELVES AND TO THE SCHOOL.

The under 16 footballers (Boys) of JSSIS have emerged champions in the Inter School football tournament for the academic year 2013-14.

JSSIS-Ooty had the honour of hosting the under 16 football tournament for the Boys this year. The matches were held at the main field on the 19th, 20th and the 21st of Aug 2013. Nine teams from the Association of the English Speaking School in the Nilgiris have gained entry to the tournament.

Fixtures were drawn based on division of two pools amongst the nine teams as detailed hereunder.

Four Schools gained entry into the semi-finals, namely, JSSIS., Lawrence School, Hebron School and JSSIS. Lawrence School entered the final having beaten SJC. JSSIS entered the Final having beaten Hebron 3 goals to1.

The final was played at 4.00 p m on Wednesday the 21st of Aug 2013, at JSSIS main field.  JSSIS- Ooty emerged champions having beaten Lawrence School, Lovedale one goal to nil.

Awards to the following players were given in recognition of their excellence in the game.

  • Best Striker- Master. Mohamed Razin of St.Joseph’s Boys’ Hr.Sec.School, Coonoor.
  • Best Goal Keeper- Master. Mohamed Rafeez of JSSIS- Ooty.
  • Best Defender- Master. Meeran of Lawrence School, Lovedale.
  • Best Mid Field Player- Master. Kamala Prasad of JSSIS-Ooty.
  • Best Goal of the Tournament- Master. Doyan of JSSIS- Ooty.
