SPECIAL ASSEMBLY REPORT – 11th July 2016

Mr. M Rahmath M.A. Philosophy, Principal Consultant, Founder of                                                            “Johan Foundation”, a training outfit, was invited as a guest speaker for the school assembly on 11th July 2016. He delivered an effective speech on the importance of staying focused in achieving success. He enlightened the students about the power of concentration.
Mr. M Rahmath explained the different stages of human life, through simple real life stories. He spoke about being in the ‘present’ and performing once duties and responsibility to be a successful person in the future. He made the Children to take a pledge on performing their duties.

Birth Centenary Celebration of Dr. Rajaguruthilaka, His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Sri Shivarathree Rajendra Mahaswamiji – 16th July 2016

The Birth Centenary Celebration of Dr. Rajaguruthilaka, His Holiness Jagadguru Dr. Sri Sri Shivarathri Rajendra Mahaswamiji, was celebrated with great zeal on 16th July 2016 at JSS College of Pharmacy. JSS College of Pharmacy along with JSS International School had organized this function.
The chief guest for the function was Dr. Basavarajaiah Retd. Principal NIIT, Suratkal, Karnataka.
The president for the function was Sri. HRM. Bhojaraj, Chairman Hittakkal Groups, Kotagiri. The guest of honour were Sri Ganeshmoorthy, Chief Educational Officer, Ooty, Sri B.Rajesh Chander, Co-Chairman, Hittakkal Groups, Kotagiri, Swami Raghaveshananda, Sri Ramakrishna Math, Ooty, Swami Vyasa Prasad, Narayana Gurukulam, Fern Hill ,Ooty, Sri H.H. Ramubabu, Sri Abubabaji Charitable Mission Trust, Ooty,  Sri Shivakumaraswamiji, Hittakkal Math, Kotagiri.
The function started at 12.00 p.m with an invocation dance performed by the students of JSS College of Pharmacy. Thereby followed by an invocation song. The welcome address was given by Sri K.S. Ravi, Principal JSS International School, Ooty. The dignitaries were honored by the faculty members. Dr. S.B.Dhanabal, Principal JSS College of Pharmacy, presented a power point presentation in the Centenary Celebration throughout the year. A short documentary film was screened in the life of His Holiness Jagadguru  Dr. Sri Sri Shivarathree Rajendra Mahaswamiji.
Commemorating the importance of the celebration certificates & awards were given to the students those who secured first, second & third ranks from government schools in the Nilgiri District. Also the students who had secured 10 CGPA in the class 10 Board Examination. The students who secured the highest marks in class 12 Board Examination and the students who had secured ranks in D.Pharm, B.Pharm. M.Pharm & Pharm.D disciplines were awarded with prizes & certificates.
As an act of charity the underprivileged and the differently abled children form two orphanage homes and a Deaf & Dum school were provided with stationary kits.
The dignitaries addressed the gathering and all of them had brought into light the kindness of the Mahaswamiji. The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Basavanna, Administrative officer incharge.
The function ended with the planting of saplings by the dignitaries in the college campus.

INTERNATIONAL YOGA DAY

Yoga Day is celebrated on June 21 since its inception in 2015. An International Day for Yoga was declared by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on December 11, 2014, unanimously. Yoga is a physical, mental, and spiritual practice attributed mostly to India. The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested the date 21st of June , as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and shares special significance in many parts of the world.

As a part of this celebration, Udhagai Manavalakalai Mandram Trust conducted yoga competition for different age groups on 21st June 2016 at Udhagai Temple of Consciousness. Many schools from the Nilgiris participated in this competition and few students have brought laurels to our school. The following students participated in the competition and obtained participation certificate. A. Asmitha, B.Mariyam, A.Shri Hari, J.Sona Sri, K. Kawinya, B.Manoj kumar and Tensing Palden.

N.Pritheeviraj was awarded the first place in the Senior Division.

Siddarth had won the first place in the Junior Division and the best performer award.

K.Thanisha secured Second place in the Sub Junior Girls division.

The Bharat scouts and guides, Karnataka has arranged 3 days workshop for trainees from 5th May to 7th May 2016. The Chairman of function was Mr S.G.R Shindya, Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides, former Home Minister, Karnataka. More than 80 participants all over Karnataka attended the programme.

Report on Retreat at Suttur (23rd Apr to 27th Apr 2016)

The Retreat programme was conducted at Suttur for the teachers of JSS schools from 23rd April to 27th April 2016. We 13 teachers from JSSIS, Ooty started at 10am and reached Suttur at 4pm on 23rd April 2016. After refreshment we went to the temple for a mass prayer from 6.30 pm to 8.00 pm and then we had dinner and settled in the rooms which was allotted for us. We had a regular schedule to be followed every day. The next day we started with a mass prayer from 6.00am to 6.30am followed by the yoga session conducted by Pathanjali group till 7.30am.  After breakfast we all assembled in the auditorium for the inauguration at 10.00 am. We started the next session with subject experts after lunch at 2.30 pm till 5.30 pm. The sessions were based on the following topics: English – Assessment of speaking and listening skills (ASL), Social science – How to develop map skills? , PCM – Formative assessment. We had a break for half an hour. Later we went for indigenous games till 7.10 pm. This was followed by mass prayer and dinner.

25th April we started with the regular schedule from 6.00am which included mass prayer and yoga. We had the first session at 10.00 am with the subject experts on the following topics- English – Grammar made interesting, Social science- Creative teaching techniques, PCM- Effective teaching methods. We had a spiritual discourse by Sri Siddeshwara Mahaswamiji at 11.45 am. Then we had the second session after lunch on activity based grammar concepts in English, creative teaching activities in social science, Multi- disciplinary projects in PCM. We had a field trip to Agricultural institute and to a Shivan temple. After a break we assembled for the indigenous games, mass prayer and cultural activities.

On 26th April we had the regular mass prayer and yoga sessions. The first session started at 10.00 am with the subject experts on the following topics: English –Creative techniques to teach prose, Social science- Skills in social science, PCM- Effective teaching methodology. We had a spiritual discourse by Sri Siddeshwara Mahaswamiji at 11.45 am. Then we had the second session after lunch on creative techniques to teach poetry in English, skill based approach in teaching in social science, problem solving techniques in PCM. We had a field trip to Agricultural institute and to a Shivan temple. After a break we assembled for the indigenous games, mass prayer and cultural activities.

The last day we had one session in the morning where the experts dealt with the following topics:  English – creative writing, Social Science- assessment for learning, PCM- activity based learning. After lunch the retreat programme came to an end at 4.30pm with the valedictory function. This was a real treat for the staff members and we were intellectually benefited by the sessions.

On the occasion of the National Science Day, the Radio Astronomy Centre conducted a programme for students which included competitions like painting, essay writing, exhibition of science models and Quiz Which was held on 18th February 2016. Students of various schools and colleges exhibited their innovative ideas in the form of models. Totally 656 students from 80 schools and some colleges were participated. Many institutions and research centres had presented various awareness programs relating Science.
