INTER HOUSE ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET-2014.

Though there was a promise of rain in the clouds, Friday the 19th of September 2014 turned out to be bright and sunny. The contingent of the four houses were lined up for the opening march past, and awaited the arrival of our chief guest Rev. Father. Jayakumar, Correspondent , Christus Rex Senior Secondary School, Ooty, to mark the inauguration of the 24th Annual Inter House Athletic meet-2014.

At precisely, 9.30 a m , the chief guest arrived and inspected the guard of honour, after which he was escorted to the dais. This was followed by the torch relay by Students who had brought laurels to themselves and to the School in various sports activities.

The flame of peace of JSS International School, was lit by Darphan, who is an athlete and had brought laurels to himself and the School in the recently concluded athletic meet of the Inter School hosted by the Heads of English Speaking Schools in the Nilgiris at MRC-Wellington.

This in turn was handed over to Shibha, an athlete and a footballer who had then handed over the torch  to Tenzing, who had created a new meet record in shot-put in the Inter School Athletic meet having thrown a distance of 13.57 metres. The flame of peace of J S S International school, was then handed over to Md. Refeez who is the Sport’s captain for the academic year 2014-15, as all four proudly carried the torch to light the urn placed at the far end of the ground.

This was followed by the hoisting of the School flag and the flags of the four houses by the captain of the respective houses. The four contingent lined up then began the opening march past and offered their salute to the chief guest who took the salute.

Once the contingents were lined up after the opening march past, the captains marched forward to take the oath administered by the Games captain Md. Reafeez.

Our distinguished chief guest then declared the 24th annual athletic meet of J S S International School, open.

This was followed by the sports events which comprised of the 100 meters dash by all divisions, followed by the 400 meters, and the junior events by the tiny little tots of classes I, II, III & IV which were the frog race, filling the water bottle and rolling the ball, which kept the audience with joy and laughter.

Following tea, the 4 X 100 Meter relay by all divisions of the four houses were welcomed by cheers all around the ground. This was followed by an event for the parents and guests, and a relay by the house teachers.

The School then performed the closing march past, and assembled for the distribution of the awards.

Our distinguished chief guest, Rev.Father. Jayakumar, then gave away the awards to the winners. Prominent amongst the winners were the following:-

  • The Individual championship among the Sub-junior Boys- Dharpan of Jala House.
  • The Individual championship among the Sub-Junior Girls- Saniya of Jala House.
  • The Individual championship among the Junior Boys- Priyanshu of Jala House.
  • The Individual championship among the Junior Girls- Shiba of Agni House.
  • The Individual championship among the Inter Boys- Keerthivasan of Agni House.
  • The Individual championship among the Inter Girls- Lawuvinta of Prithvi House.
  • The Individual championship among the Senior & Super Senior Boys- Mohan of Prithvi House.
  • The Individual championship among the Senior & Super Senior Girls- Archana of Jala House.

The award for the best contingent in the marching was bagged by JALA HOUSE.

DIVISIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP.

  • The Divisional championship among the sub-Junior Boys-JALA HOUSE.
  • The Divisional championship among the sub-junior Girls-JALA HOUSE.
  • The Divisional championship among the junior Boys- JALA HOUSE.
  • The Divisional championship among the junior Girls- AGNI HOUSE.
  • The Divisional championship among the inter Boys-   VAYU HOUSE.
  • The Divisional championship among the inter Girls- PRITHVI HOUSE.
  • The Divisionall championship among the senior & super senior Boys- PRITHVI HOUSE.
  • The Divisional championship among the senior & super senior Girls- JALA HOUSE.

The overall champions for the 24th annual athletic meet of J S S International School- Ooty was bagged by JALA HOUSE with a total of 200 points.

In his address to the audience, our distinguished chief guest Rev.Father. Jayakumar, emphasized the need to excel in the field of sport and games for a healthy and vibrant atmosphere, apart form academics in School.

The morning came to an end with our Physical Education Teacher Mr.Gopinath, proposing a vote of thanks, and the School singing the National Anthem.

THE INTER HOUSE TAMIL ELOCUTION AT JSSIS-OOTY

The Inter house Tamil Elocution contest was held at the School auditorium on Saturday the 9th of Aug 2014. At 11.00 the School was assembled in the auditorium to welcome the three judges for the morning contest.

The judges for the elocution, were, (1) Mr.Christopher Rajkumar- Tamil Teacher from St. Joseph’s Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Ooty, (2) Mr.Narayanan-Tamil Teacher from Nazareth Convent- Ooty and (3) Mrs. Shobana-Tamil Teacher from Breeks All Inida Higher Secondary School- Ooty.

The contest were held in three categories. viz.  Recitation for the Junior division. Ms.Sanya of Jala house, bagged the first prize with 10 points and Ms.Tharani of Prithvi house was awarded the second prize with 10 points.

In the recitation for the Inter division, Master. Yasik of Agni house was awarded the first prize with 10 points and followed in second place by Ms.Bhagya of Prithvi house, with 8.5 points.

An elocution contest for the Senior division, was a battle fought well by all the houses. Ms.Mahitha of Agni house was awarded the first place with 23 points, Master. R. Vishal of Jala house in second place with 19.5 points and followed in third place was Ms. Pooja of Vayu house with 18.5 points.

The overall winners in the Tamil elocution for the academic year 2014-15 were Vayu & Jala houses as joint winners and Prithvi & Agni house as runner up’s.

The morning event came to an end with the judges inspiring the audience with their speeches.

INTER HOUSE ENGLISH DEBATE 2014

The Inter House English debate for the academic year 2014-15 was held at the School auditorium on Saturday the 26th of July 2010.  The Judges for the debate were (1) Mrs. D Preslin, English Teacher from Wood Side School- Ooty, (2) Mrs. Raji Narisimhan, English Teacher from Good Shepherd International School, Ooty, and (3) Mr. T G Suri, Warden from JSSIS-Ooty.

The topic for the debate was ” CHILDREN OF TODAY DO NOT HAVE THE RIGHT FOOD HABITS”.  There were two speakers from each house, one speaking for the motion and the other against the motion.

The speakers were judged on the criteria of Matter, Delivery and Rebuttal.

After an hour and a half of deliberation and thought provoking questions posed by the chair person, judges and the audience during the rebuttal session, Ms. Rajeshwari of class XI from Prithvi House was adjudged the best speaker and Master. Mohan of class XI also from Prithvi house was adjudged the second best speaker.

Prithvi House bagged the first prize with 4 points, Agni in second place with 3 points, Vayu house in third place with 2 points and followed in the rear by Jala House with 1 point.

An enlightening morning came to an end with the Chair person, The Principal, Mr. Rennie Jospeh Mendonce, thanking the gathering.

INVESTITURE CERMONEY AT JSSIS-OOTY

The School council after much deliberation has selected the Student office bearers representing the School, Hostel  and the four houses for the academic year 2014-15.

At 11.00 am on Saturday the 12th of July 2014, the School was assembled at the auditorium awaiting the arrival of our chief guest Mrs. Corrien Ann Fenandez , The Principal, Mrs.Bull moore’s Matriculation School, Coonoor.

On the chief guest’s arrival, the Principal, our guest of honour and the four house masters lit the lamp, while the invocation song by the School choir was sung.

This was followed by the Principal introducing our guest of honour to the audience.  Our Warden Mr. T.G.Suri, called up the office bearers on to the stage to be introduced. Our Principal, administered the oath and the Captains, vice-captains and prefects swore in the oath and our distinguished chief guest presented  the badges to the School captain, School vice-captain, Sports captain and sports vice captain.

This was followed by the Principal administrating the oath to the Hostel captains, and vice captains for both the boys and girls. Our distinguished guest of honour was requested to present the badges to them.

Followed by the School and the Hostel the oath was administered to the Four House captains, vice- captains, and prefects of the four houses and the respective house masters presented the badges to the office bearers of the houses.

After all office bearers were presented with the badges, a small demonstration of Yoga was conducted by the junior Students.

In her speech to the Students, our distinguished chief guest , requested all leaders to extend support and inculcate discipline in the minds of the fellow Students, and to be stern when required and at the same time be cordial and friendly at all times.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR 2014-15

At the start of the new academic year 2014-15, the campus of JSSIS-Ooty was vibrant with about 165 Students as new entrants to the JSS family, mingled with the existing Students set alight the campus with cheer at the commencement of the Inter House tournament.

On the 7th & 8th of June 2014, the inaugural event was the Under 14 football tournament for the Boys. After a two day long battle amongst the houses, JALA HOUSE emerged winners gaining 10 point for their house. This was followed by AGNI HOUSE with 7 points, PRITHVI with 4 points and bringing up the rear was VAYU house not opening the account.

CHESS TOURNAMENT FOR THE GIRLS.

An Inter house chess tournament was conducted on the 14th of June 2014.

After a huge brain storm among active participants amongst the Girls, PRITHVI house emerged winners with 7 points, followed by the runner-up position AGNI house with 5 points. The third place was awarded to JALA house with 3 points and VAYU  ending up with no score at all.

INTER HOUSE CHESS FOR THE BOYS UNDER 14

The Inter house chess tournament for the Boys under 14 was held on the 21st of June 2014. PRITHVI house emerged winners gaining 7 points, followed by AGNI house with 5 points and the third position was awarded to both JALA and VAYU sharing 1.5 points each.

INTER HOUSE BASKET BALL UNDER 14 TOURNAMENT.

The Inter hosue basketball tournament for the Under 14 category was held on the 21st and 22nd of June 2014. After a two day play off, AGNI house emerged winners with 10 points, followed in second place was JALA house with 7 points, PRITHVI in third place with 4 points and bringing up the rear was VAYU house with no score.

INTER HOUSE THROW BALL FOR THE GIRLS.

The Inter house throw ball for the Girls was held on the 21st of June 2014.

The new entrants to the School amongst the Girls were quite enthusiastic and brought much cheers amongst the spectators and their fellow house mates.

AGNI house emerged winners gaining 10 points for their house, and followed in the Second place was PRITHVI with 7 points. Third place was awarded to VAYU house with 4 points and JALA  ending up with no score.

STUDENTS’ OF JSSIS-OOTY BRING LAURELS TO THE SCHOOL IN THE SUTTUR DRAWING COMPETITION.

A drawing competition for the categories comprising of Students from Grade 8, 9 &  10 was organised at Suttur on Sunday the 29th of June 2014.  Students for various JSS Institutions and other Institution had participated.

Participants for JSSIS-Ooty were:-

  • PHANNAPHAR SUMTHORNKALAM- X-IGCSE
  • MANSOOR MAHBOOB-IX-IGCSE
  • PUGALARASAN-VIII-CBSE
  • MEGA ARUN- IX-CBSE
  • SREE JANANI-IX-CBSE
  • SREE JANANI- IX-CBSE

Amongst the 500 Students from the various Institutions that had participated in the drawing competition, MEGA ARUN of JSSIS-OOTY, bagged the first prize, thus bringing laurels to herself and the School. She was also awarded a cash prize of Rs.3,000/- and a memento.  All other participants were awarded a certificate of participation.

ANNUAL PRIZE DAY AT JSSIS-OOTY

The 23rd annual prize day for the academic year 2013-14 was held on Saturday the  29th of March 2014 at 3.00 p m in the School auditorium. The chief guest for the afternoon’s show was Dr.O>P>S>KHOLA, Principal Scientist & Head, Central Soil & Conservation Research & Training Institute  Research Centre, Udhagamandalam (ICAR. Ministry of Agriculture-Govt.of India).

A guard of honour was presented to our distinguished chief guest, and the School choir welcomed him with the invocation song.

Master. Pranav Kumar N of class XI presented the welcome address and introduced the chief guest to the audience.

Our Principal Mr. Rennie J Mendonce, then presented the School annual report. This was followed by our Vice-principal, Mr. K.S.Ravi presenting the activities report for the academic year 2013-14.

In his address to the audience, Dr.O.P.S. Khola, highlighted and applauded the service to JSSIS- Ooty in its field of Education to its Students. He recalled how his elder son who was a student of JSSIS-Ooty had excelled in academics and which had paved a way for him to now be perusing his pilot training course. He also said he was happy that his younger son is a student of this great Institution.

Mrs. Khola then did the honour in giving away the awards to the winner of various classes.

Post tea saw the audience in a joyful mode in the Students of JSSIS-Ooty presenting a variety entertainment programme, which came to an end at 7.00 p m with Ms. Madu Krishna C G of class XI proposing a vote of thanks.

PT AND PYRAMIDS 2013-14 AT JSSIS

The annual PT & Pyramids for the academic year 2013-14 was held at the School main field on Saturday the 1st of March 2014. The judges for the show were three eminent Physical Directors from various Schools and Colleges.

The show began at 3.00 p m where all four houses were assembled, donned in their house colours, for the opening event which was the marching drill and their formations. The marching drill and formations comprised of all houses making formations of the various currency symbols of eight Nations, which included the US dollar, Pound sterling and the dutch Guilder.

The winners amongst the best contingent in the marching drill and the formation were Jala House as the winners and the runner up was Vayu house.

This was then followed by the Pyramids by the four houses. After a wonderful  display of pyramids by the four houses, Phrthvi and Agni were declared joint winners and Vayu house, the runner-up.

This was then followed by the PT drills by the tiny little tots of JSSIS, comprising Students of classes I to IV.

What followed next was the spectacular display of PT drills by the senior and middle school students, decked in colourful consumes and properties, which enthralled the show.

After an enlightening and colourful display of   events, the overall champions of the PT & Pyramids 2013-14, was Vayu House . A tie for the second place saw Prithvi and Agni house is second place, and followed in the rear by Jala House.

The evening came to an end with the Principal proposing a vote of thanks, distribution of prizes  and the students singing the National anthem.

JSSIS-UNDER 13 CRICKETERS EMERGE VICTORIUS

The defending champions JSSIS-Ooty, under 13 cricketers have retained their title, having emerged winners in the Nilgir District Cricket tournament meant for the under 13 category. They defeated Lawerane School, Lovedale at the Laid Law Memorial School and Junior college ground.
