  • The first batch of JSS Students who appeared for the IGCSE examination IGCSE affiliated to Cambridge University ( U.K) have emerged with flying colours.

  • The School Council congratulates both students and teachers on the 100 % performance.

JSS PUBLIC SCHOOL,OOTY SCORES CENTUM FOR THE 5TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR

JSS Public School Ooty secured 100% passes in the recently concluded AISSE (Std X) examination, results for which were announced on 26th May’09. Gautam D Shah with a total of 484/500 (96.8%) topped the school and the District. Arvind D with a total of 458/500 (91.6%) was placed second. A total of 57 students appeared for the examination in March 2009. 21 students secured 400 marks and above out of 500, there were 29 distinctions and 20 first classes. The Principal Mr. Rennie J Mendonce congradulated the staff for their hardwork.

JSS PUBLIC SCHOOL, OOTY REACHES

SEMIFINALS – UNDER-19 INTER SCHOOL TABLE TENNIS:

 

                  Our under-19 students reached the Semifinals of the Inter school Table Tennis organized by the Association of Heads of English speaking schools in the Nilgiris at St. Joseph’s Boys Higher secondary School, Coonoor. We lost out to the eventual winners in the Semifinal.

 

 JSS PUBLIC SCHOOL, OOTY REACHES FINAL- UNDER-19 DISTRICT LEVEL INVITATIONAL BASKET BALL TOURNAMENT:

 

                    Under-19 students from our school participated and reached the final of an invitational District level Basket ball Tournament. In a hard fought final our students went down to Govt. Art College, Ooty.

 

JSS PUBLIC SCHOOL, OOTY WINS DISTRICT LEVEL UNDER-19 FOOT BALL TOURNEY:

 

                The under-19 Foot ball team won the District level under 19 Foot ball tourney at the HADP Breeks Open Air Stadium beating Good Shepherd School, Ooty Via the tie breaker after both teams were locked 1-1 at the end of regulation time. 12 teams where in the fray.

 

JSS PUBLIC SCHOOL, OOTY STANDS 3rd IN THE E.V.S. QUIZ:

 

                   JSS Public School represented by Rochelle of Std XI and Ambika Std XI were placed Third in an E.V.S. Quiz organized by the Association of Heads of English speaking schools in the Nilgiris at the Laidlaw Memorial School and Junior College, Ketti.


 

JSS PUBLIC SCHOOL, OOTY WINS THE INTER SCHOOL DEBATE ORGANISED BY THE ROTARY CLUB OF OOTACAMUND:

 

                           Our school represented by Rochelle of Std XI and Surya also of Std XI participated and won the cup for the best school organized by the Rotary Club of Ootacamund. The topic for the debate: Young leaders & Elder Statesmen.

A TRIP TO MASINAGUDI

On 20th Sept, during Eid holidays , the students of JSS travelled to the town of Masinagudi, situated at the foothills of the Nilgiris. The students were accompanied by Mr. Suri, Mr. Ravichandran, Mr. Jayakumar & the kitchen staff.

On the bright sunny morning after a hearty breakfast the students went on a jungle safari in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve. It was a treat for the eyes for all to see the wild buffalos, bisons, elephants, deer, monkeys, birds & butterflies amidst the splendid green nature.

After the safari, the students went to Mayar Power house where they learned how electricity is generated from flowing water.

Later all returned to the Hotel and after a quick dip in a nearby river and a sumptuous lunch the students left the picturesque town of Masinagudi for JSS Public School.

 In short the students had a very memorable enjoyable and an educational trip.

FOUNDER'S DAY

FOUNDER'S DAY 2009

                Founder's Day 2009 was celebrated with traditional gaiety and grandeur on 'Teachers Day', the 5th September'09.

                The Day began with the Inauguration of the Art and Science exhibition by Dr. Elango, Principal JSS College of Pharmacy Ooty, after a very enlightening speech by him. The highlight of the exhibition were the paintings done by the students, very ably assisted by Mr. Rajkumar, Art teacher. Some of the Science Projects on display were also mind boggling.

                  The next program for the day was an Inter School Singing Competition, "A tribute to Michael Jackson". Although only 3 schools took part, the quality of the competition was of a very high standard with the organizers filling in whenever necessary to make the program a success.

                Following a sumptuous lunch, students from Std's VI, VII and VIII enthralled the audience with their dancing capabilities in a 'Solo dance' competition. The highlight of this competition was a dance performed by Harshita of Std VII on Skates.

                       Immediately after tea we had Mr. Theo Devagnanam, Managing Director Needle Industries( India) Pvt Ltd speaking to our parents and students on discipline and the economic melt down.  A series of a variety of Dances, Songs and an English Skit formed the variety entertainment programme. The curtain came down on the Founder's Day Programme with the singing of the National Anthem.

INTER HOUSE ATHLECTICS - 2009

Inter House Athletics -2009 ( Sports Day)

18th September’09

            The Inter house athletic meet – Sports Day was held on the 18th September’09 with Mr. P. Jagadeeswaran, Chairman-Cum-Managing Director, Hindustan Photo Films, Ootacamund as the Chief Guest.

            The programme began with the welcome of the Chief Guest with a bugle call by students of the school band. TheOlympic torch was then relayed along the track by  Pavya, Abineeth, Vinitha and Nithin Kumar – all athletes as who had brought lawels to the school in the past. This was followed by the hoisting of the school flag and the house flags by the respective captains. Under the command of the school captain the school then Marched Past the Chief Guest and audience present. Following the athletes oath taken by the school captain, the meet was declared open by the Chief Guest by releasing a bunch of Multi coloured baloons and the bursting of crackers.

              The Athletic events followed beginning with events for the Junior classes I to IV, 100 mts for all divisions, 400 mts and the 4x100 mts relay. A grand tea was served between the end of the 400 mts and the start of the relays.

               The meet was brought to a close with a small speech by the Chief Guest, Prize Distribution and a vote of thanks proposed by the Principal.

Inter School Sports – 2009

 

             Students from our school, as in the  past, took part in the Inter School Sports organized by the Association of Heads of English Speaking Schools in the Nilgiris at the M.R.C Stadium, Wellington. Our Boys were placed 5th overall from amongst 24 schools. Noteworthy performers were Bhumesh Patel who won the individual championship in the Inter Division and Abineeth Kumar who was placed 1st in the 100mts & 200 mts – Inter Division.

             The Chief Guest on the final day was the commandant of the Madras Regimental Centre ( M.R. C),Brig. Jadhav.

The Principal Mr. Rennie Mendonce attended a 5 day programme on Strategic Leadership at the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. In his own words, he felt, “It was an eye opener to management skills”. He got to meet and interface with a number of Principals from different parts of the country.

Nilgiris Climatic Conditions

Unprecedented rains ,landslips and adverse climatic conditions lead to damage to roads, power supply disruption, and inconvenience to public at large with all basic amenities gone haywire.

 

Restoration work is under way but will take some time for normalcy to return. Meanwhile at JSS the forced holiday declared by the District Collector has come to an end. On18th Nov’09 the school resumed. However all campus residence, school building and the playground are safe and all are enjoying life at the school.

·         JSS International School, Ooty was honoured with the visit of the council general of Thailand accompanied by the commercial attache.

 

·         The dignitaries interfaced with the Thai students in the school library over tea.

 

·          The school council briefed the honoured guests on the admission process     

                   followed by the school. Admission packs were presented to the delegation.

                         The school hosted a dinner at the Ooty club in their honour. The following

                  morning the delegation  visited the school dormitories including the dining hall

                  where they had breakfast.

2nd Re-union of past students – Jan 25th & 26th 2010

 

The second Re-union of past students of the school was held on the 25th & 26th January 2010. Although the turn out was below expectations, the ones who were present were treated to two days of fun, games and food.

 

The past students initially assembled in the school auditorium on the 25th by 11.00.A.M. where they were registered as life members and given instructions on the programme for the meet.

 

 Post lunch the meet was formally launched with an exhibition football match between the past students and the present under 19 football team. The present students were run away winners, winning 5-2, simultaneously the past girls engaged in a Throwball battle with the present girls. Throwball was also won by the present girls. Following football and Throwball were athletic events where the past students participated in 100 mts, 200 mts, shotput and an exhibition 4x100 Relay between the past boys & present boys and another relay between the past girls & the present girls. While the present boys won the boys relay, the past girls won the girls relay.

 

Athletics was followed by Basketball and Volleyball featuring the present and past boys respectively.

 

An evening of entertainment followed, with a masala of dances and songs put up by the present students and the past students. The day came to an end with a sumptuous dinner hosted by the school for the past students.

 

January 26th being Republic Day began with the formal hoisting of the National flag by the Principal followed by speeches in Hindi, Tamil & English by the students and a speech by the Principal to commemorate the 60th Republic Day. Sweets were distributed to the students at the end of the programme.

                        

The staff and the past students then engaged themselves in a Cricket battle which was won narrowly by the staff.

 

The past students after lunch engaged themselves in discussing the formalities for registering the Alumni Association of J.S.S. International School, Ooty. Time was also spent in interviewing prospective students who had qualified for the scholarship which covered one years tuition fees sponsored by the past students. Rahul Solanki of Std IX came out the clear winner from amongst 7 other contestants and the school was presented a cheque for Rs.16,000/- by the past students towards his tuition fee for the next academic year.

 

The Alumni meet 2010 came to an end with the past students and staff meeting for dinner at Hotel Preethi Classic Towers, Ooty, thus  the curtain down on the 2nd reunion of old students.

The Inter School Junior Debate organized by J.S.S. International School, Ooty was held on Saturday the 13th February 2010 beginning at 10.00.A.M. The topic for the debate was “Increased use of Technology promotes laziness”.

The showpiece event of the extra-curricular calendar, Inter house P.T, & Pyramids was held on Friday the 26th February 2010, beginning at 3.30.P.M. Mr. Milton from Good Shepherd International School, Mr. Shankara Pandian from The Laidlaw Memorial School and Mr. Arul from Breeks School graced the occasion as external judges. Parents gathered in large numbers to witness this colourful spectacle.

The programme began with the four houses performing Marching drills in formations. A Mango, a ladies Hand bag, an Umbrella were amongst some of the formations seen on the field. Agni house was adjudged the best house in the Marching drills. Following the Marching drills we had the four houses building pyramids in turn. Balance, endurance and co-ordination were tested as a number of tiny tots did the balancing act. Agni house was once again adjudged the best Pyramid Presenter.

The junior students of Std I to IV than enchanted the audience with a colourful Balloon drill, they were indeed a treat to watch!

Tea brought a temporary halt to proceedings and following a sumptuous tea a grand spectacle of colours in the form of the P.T. drills enfolded. Vayu house performed an Umbrella drill, followed by Prithvi house with their Lotus Drill. Agni house then put up a spectacular show with their hoops enthralling the audience with wave and dragon formations. Jala house followed with their drill with dance like steps. Agni house was once again adjudged the best house. The P.T. & Pyramids cakes and shield went to Agni house who swept the show. The programme ended with a vote of thanks proposed by the Principal and the judges distributing Prizes to the winners.

Annual Prize Day – 27th March 2010

Bringing down the curtain on activities for the academic year 2009-2010 was the Annual Prize Day held on 27th March 2010. Lion M. Bhojarajan B.A., B.L., DFSc who was the Chief Guest for the occasion exhorted the students to use ‘position’ as an opportunity to serve people and not misuse position for power. He asked the students to choose role models like Gandhiji and Vivekananda and follow in their foot steps to make India ‘greater.’ Preceeding the Chief Guest’s speech was the Annual Report presented by the Principal Mr. Rennie J. Mendonce, which highlighted the school’s achievements over the academic year 2009-2010. This was followed by a Report on Co-curricular and Extra curricular activities of the school presented by the Co-ordinator Mr. K.S.Ravi. A number of Prizes were distributed on the occasion to the student achievers. Tea brought a halt to the first part of the function.

Post Tea was a variety entertainment extravaganza presented by the students. There was a generous mix of song and dance interspersed with an English skit, - a modern version of Shakespeare’s  Merchant of Venice. There were dances performed by students of I to IV, V & VI, VII & VIII, XI and a graceful dance presented by the IGCSE students. There were solo song performances by Yash- accompanied by Tryash, and Aishwarya Gurung with a serenade of medleys by the students of the Middle school, a group song by the IGCSE students and a group song by students of Std XI. Following a brilliant Vote of Thanks presented by Surya of Std XI the curtain came down on yet another successful Annual Prize Day.

BOARDERS UNDERGO ANNUAL HEALTH CHECK

 

All boarders underwent the Annual Health Check which was organized by the school Doctor Suresh Babu. Doctor Suresh Babu emphasized the need for such checks and its importance in diagnosing and treating ailments that may go undetected if it were not for such Health checks. Reports of these check will be sent to the parents through the boarders at the end of the academic year, school is scheduled to close on the 17th April 2010 after 2.00.P.M.

MANAGEMENT ADVISOR - BHUTAN VISIT
    1. Sumant Bakshi, Management Advisor, J.S.S. International School, Ooty was in Bhutan.

    2. Amongst other things he met up with his Excellency the Education Minister of Bhutan and the Secretary Ministry of Education to examine the possibility of training Bhutanese teachers. The meetings were productive, cordial and a decision on the subject is likely to be taken shortly.

    3. In coordination with the schools Franchisee Consultant M/s. Dechen Choden a seminar was held with prospective parents and students to update them on the schools admission process, fee structure, and JSS Mahavidyapeetha the schools parent body head - quarted in Mysore.

    4. Sumant Bakshi was also invited to address the faculty at the college of education located at Paro, Bhutan.

    5. He also had the opportunity to visit two Bhutanese schools – a Government school and the other a Private school.
